05/06/2007 - Double win at Ayr Mecca
A 77-year-old woman from Ayr changed her bingo routine and won £25,00 at the Mecca Club in Boswell Park.
The woman has been a regular player for many years and normally plays in the afternoon, but had decided to visit the Mecca that night with her three sisters-in-law to check out the evening game and for something different to do.
Mecca manager, Gordon Shennan said she was very shocked when she found out how much she had won and that he did his best to keep her calm.
“She was very excited, as were the other ladies, at her win and none of them could quite believe it,” he added. “The winner said that she would be splitting the money with her sisters-in-law and using some to go on holiday.”
Lady Luck stayed on at the Mecca Club, as later that week a 73-year-old great grandmother from Patna won £10,000 on the Afternoon Delight Game.
The winner, a widow, plays twice a day every day at the Mecca Club, where she has been a member since 1958.

“It was lovely to win after playing for so many years,” she said, “I’ve had some health problems recently so this win has been a real boost for me.  It’s hard to believe though.  When I woke up the next day I wondered if it had all been a dream!”
The woman has four children, nine grandchildren and one great grandchild and she says her family were ‘overjoyed’ at her win.
She intends to put the money towards the cost of a new kitchen and go on a holiday with her oldest daughter.

05/06/2007 - £100,000 birthday present
A dental nurse from Bargoed, who was 23 last Tuesday, has won herself a magnificent birthday present of more than £100,000 – playing bingo!
Joline started playing the day after her 18th birthday, and now visits the Castle Club in Plymouth Street, Merthyr Tydfil twice a week.
Her parents and sister are keen players and were at the Castle Club in Nantgarw that evening and heard that the big winner was at Merthyr, never thinking it was their daughter.
“You dream of winning a big amount but never in a million years really think it will happen to you,” said Joline, still in shock. “I couldn’t move when they announced how much I had won. I just sat and cried. I keep changing my mind about what I am going to do with the money but I will be looking after my family.”
She and partner of six years, Nicky, who is 32 and valets cars, have a year-old daughter called Kelis.
“I will pay off the mortgage and might buy a bigger house and a new car,” she added.
Joline was the second £100,000 winner at the lucky Merthyr Castle Club this month. On 4 May, a 53-year-old domestic worker from the Blackwood area struck lucky. She and her husband, who works in a factory, have four children and five grandchildren.

A 42-year-old man was 'Delighted ' after winning £20,000 on the Afternoon National Game at the Mecca Club in East Street, Gateshead.
The man who is single and from the Gateshead area, has one child.
A regular bingo player for many years and a member of the Mecca Bingo Club since 2001, this is his first big win.
He said he was very shocked and excited when he found out he had won and couldn’t stop shaking.
Asked what he will do with the money, he said that he would be splitting it with his friend who was playing bingo with him. He would then use the rest for some home improvements and possibly a holiday.

04/06/2007 - More of life's luxuries...
A 72-year-old Reading grandmother is looking forward to treating her family after winning £50,000 at the Gala Club in East Hampstead Road, Wokingham.

A regular twice weekly bingo player for many years, her previous best win was £1,000 several years ago. She and her husband joined the Gala Club in Wokingham after their local Mecca club in Reading closed down.
The winner said she couldn’t believe it when she found out she had won the National prize as she thought that 45 calls would be too high. Still in shock, she said ‘My husband and I love coming to this club; though small it’s extremely friendly, the food is nice and the staff are lovely’.
She said that treating her ‘wonderful family of two children and three grandchildren’ would be a priority and she and her husband would now be able to afford more luxuries.

30/05/2007 - Change of day brings £50,000 win
A 57-year-old Leicester grandmother changed her usual bingo-playing day and ended up winning £50,000!
Janet, a hospital worker, was at the Gala Club in Beaumont Way, Beaumont Leys when she struck lucky.
She is married and has three children and three grandchildren. Her son was playing bingo at the Gala with her when she won.
“It was him who suggested we went to bingo that evening, because I usually play on a Saturday afternoon,” said Janet. “It was the first time in 18 months that I had played the evening National Game.”
She has been a keen bingo player for many years and joined the Gala when it first opened. Her previous best win was also on the National Game, when she collected £8,000 about eight years ago.
Still very shocked at her win, she had to tell her husband three times before he believed how much it was.
Asked what she will do with her winnings she said she will ‘put it to good use’ and buy things as and when she fancied!
